Description

The New Horizons Orchestra is for musicians over the age of 50 who want to learn to play a string instrument. In the Advanced Orchestra, we challenge ourselves musically, while maintaining a focus on healthy playing, more advanced note reading, technique building, and joyful music making. Members range in age from 50-92 and in playing experience from 3 years to many decades. If you have had at least a few years of experience or are returning to playing after a hiatus (no matter how long), we welcome you to join us.

About the Instructor

BettyAnne Gottlieb

Director of CCM Preparatory’s New Horizons program, Dr. BettyAnne Gottlieb is Associate Professor and Chair of the Music Education Division at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, where she teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in Music Education. She has more than 20 years of experience teaching in public schools and university-affiliated music programs. BettyAnne has presented clinics and research presentations at state, national and international conferences.

The first New Horizons program was a band started by professor Roy Ernst at the Eastman School of Music in 1991 and supported by grants from the International Music Products Association and the National Association of Band Instrument Manufacturers. Word spread through articles in publications such as The New York Times and a feature spot on the Today Show. Since then, the program has grown to include bands, orchestras and other ensembles. Today there are more than 100 New Horizons Music programs in the United States and Canada with many more in the planning phase. For more information on the national organization, go online to www.newhorizonsmusic.org. Call CCM Preparatory at 513-556-2595 for further questions.
