Description

Ever catch your little Picasso mixing colors like a tiny Dr. Frankenstein? At Mad Scientist Academy, we let curious minds run wild, fusing art and science into a summer of boundary-pushing projects that spark both creativity and delight. This weeklong camp is a colorful laboratory of hands-on activities that let young minds experiment with new techniques, express themselves in fresh ways, and transform everyday materials into extraordinary works of art. Led by passionate instructors in a supportive environment, your child will discover inspired problem-solving, gain the confidence to ask big questions, and enjoy the excitement of learning as they forge new friendships with fellow explorers—all without a single boring afternoon in sight.

About the Instructors

Breanna Cole graduated with a Bachelor’s in Fine Arts from Miami University and a Graphic Design Certification from the New York Institute of Art + Design. Breanna believes that art has the power to evoke emotion, convey ideas, and bring people together. She is constantly seeking out new techniques and technologies to incorporate into her work! At the heart of Breanna’s practice is a passion for creating work that resonates with viewers on a deep, emotional level as well as a desire to tell stories and to facilitate a personal connection. Whether she is working on a digital illustration, a traditional illustration, painting, or a mixed media piece, Breanna’s goal is to connect with my audience in a way that sparks imagination and inspires thought. Breanna takes inspiration from the world around her and the people in it; her hope is that her art can offer a unique perspective and inspire others to see the beauty in the everyday.

Melinda Welch earned her Master’s degree and teaching license in Art Education from the University of Cincinnati’s school of Design Architecture, Art and Planning. Melinda’s Masters thesis focused on developing a visual arts curriculum for a community arts center. Her passion is sharing art experiences with people of all ages. Currently, Melinda is teaching for the Clifton Cultural Arts Center, substitute teaching for Cincinnati Public Schools and leading art programs around the Cincinnati area. Melinda is an active and experienced artist who works in ceramics, photography, collage and whatever else strikes her artistic fancy. She and her husband reside in Camp Washington with their two children.

Samantha Vance is a local watercolor/mixed media artist and certified PK-12 art teacher. She loves working with kids of all ages and experimenting, both at school and at home! Her favorite paintings are wild and colorful, and her educational philosophy is that “art is about having fun, trying new things, and making mistakes. There is no wrong way to create!” She lives in Cincinnati with her dog, 2 cats, husband, and baby-to-be.
