Memoir 101: The First Steps
Whether your memoir is still an idea in your head or nearly finished on paper, this workshop is for you. Through discussion and short writing exercises, we cover the basics of memoir such as theme, voice, and narrative arc. We sort out the “why” and “who” — Why are you telling this story, to whom are you telling it, and why will they want to read it? You’ll learn how to tackle the writing roadblocks, too: writer’s block, self-editing, procrastination, and fear.

Jay DeFazio is the author of You Only Live Twice: A Memoir in Two Genders. He holds a Masters degree in teaching and is passionate about supporting others on their own creative journeys. In addition to workshops, Jay also offers 1-on-1 book coaching, as well as manuscript critique.
