This class is for anyone who wants to create with fabric and floss, wants to relax into learning how to stitch, and wants to experiment and play with color, texture, line, and surprise. We will focus on learning specific embroidery stitches, and also learn how to create our own stitched surface design. My stitching is very intuitive instead of based on a printed fabric pattern, and I invite everyone to try this low key and liberating approach.

My first attempt at embroidery/stitching was when I was around six years old. I had a handkerchief with a circus elephant in the center, and I wanted to embroider around the design. My mother decided that a sewing needle was too dangerous for me and instead she taught me to knit. Now I indulge myself whenever I can by threading up some floss and creating free-form abstract designs on fabric. My approach is very intuitive, and I allow the materials to dictate the design. I also experiment with printing my photographs on fabric and embroidering them. I've been fortunate to have my stitched photo pieces and my stitched intuitive pieces exhibited in different art shows here in Cincinnati and in Columbus.
