Description


Join this one night workshop at the Clifton Cultural Arts Center for an introduction to Palestinian embroidery workshop! Tatreez, the Arabic word for “embroidery” refers to the Palestinian cross-stitch embroidery practice which dates back thousands of years. This workshop will include an introduction of the history of Palestinian embroidery and its importance in storytelling, community, and resistance. Participants will learn the basics of tatreez and begin stitching a Palestinian embroidery pattern. All skill levels are welcome!

About the Instructor

Chris Sifri

Christina Sifri is a Palestinian-Lebanese fine artist based in Cincinnati, Ohio, known for their captivating use of several mediums such as watercolor, screenprinting, and embroidery. They graduated with a BA in Sociology and a minor in Art, Media & Design from DePaul University. Sifri’s process addresses the contemporary complexity of identifying as a Queer Palestinian-Lebanese person living in exile in America through symbolizing reclamation, grief, community, and collective liberation.
Sifri has exhibited their work internationally at Milchhof Berlin (DE), Backhaus Projects (DE), Nekubi Art Space (GR), and nationally: Gallery Wrightwood (IL), St.Louis Artists Guild (MO), Art Academy of Cincinnati (OH). Sifri’s work has been published with Diode Editions (2025),
DePaul University Library (2024), and Science for the People Magazine (2024) and the Lesbian Herstory Archives (2025).
Today, Sifri resides and creates their work in Cincinnati, OH where they hope to continue creating community spaces rooted in collective art making.
